Job Specifications - The Lilly Library Mural Project
![]() |
The
Trustees of Lilly Library and the Interior Design Committee would like
to have a woodland theme mural created in the window "bay"
area shown above and the front and side of two columns, one of which is depicted
at left. The Woodland Theme
Mural should be appropriate for young children and blend well with the
existing colors of the room. An antique totem pole, located just outside
the Children's Room, is the inspiration for the woodland theme, and
its color scheme should also be incorporated into the mural. The drawings
should be whimsical, yet realistic, and not cartoon-like. The selected artist should be a resident of Northampton, Florence, or Leeds or work in Northampton, Florence, or Leeds. The selected artist should be able to complete the project in a reasonable amount of time, and will be responsible for cleaning up the area completely between painting sessions. Storage for paints, ladders, drop cloths, etc. will be provided. The library is closed on Wednesdays, but arrangements can be made for the library to be opened for the artist. Applicants should write a proposal with a sketch of the overall plan for painting the space and provide a small detailed study (8 1/2 by 11 1/2) to give the Committee an idea of his/her style and talent. Copies of other work done, particularly pictures of other murals, should be submitted with the proposal. Please include a recent resumé which includes names and phone numbers of local references who are familiar with your artistic work. A contract for the project will be drawn up once an artist has been selected. Once hired, the artist will be given $250.00 for materials to begin the project, and $1,000.00 will be paid to the artist upon completion of the mural. We look forward to
hearing from you. Questions? Email Trustee Holly Hargraves at holly @ hollyhargraves.com
